Alvida - Episode 15

Seeing as I may be out of the posting loop for a few days - personal khush khabri happening - I thought I'd make sure I commented my heart out on the latest Alvida episode. But before I (we) tell you how I (we) feel about this drama, I just want to say, I find what others say about this drama just as amusing. I mean people are going all ga-ga over how awesome this drama is. Hmmmm are we watching the same drama?

Let's start...shall we...
I must say, Rameez sure did go all out on the flowers. If I wasn't so sure there's something wrong with him, I'd give him an attaboy.

Rameez taking pictures of his wife - I don't know who felt more awkward: Haya or me.

Honestly, honestly, tell me this wasn't creepy as hell. I was like, finally we get to see what's wrong with this guy. But team Alvida is attempting to be mysterious, so fine. Whatever. We will play along...
This is just the start, rameez proceeds to act like the nand and devar too.
Thankfully he didnt portray the susar too.

Wait. Wait. Adult Haya has a Disney princess diary? #SeemsLegit
And why does she call him Hadi in her diary? Shouldn't he be HS in her personal diary?

Haya has a Disney princess diary and Hadi has a 'mushkil bara yeh pyar hei' ringtone...

More totally normal behavior of a newly married groom by Rameez. *snort* So, now I'm confused. In the previous few episodes Rameez was so courteous (aka obsessed) with HS Bhai that I thought he might be into him - now he makes an excuse, sneaks off, and comes back to take secret pictures of Hadi and Haya having a normal conversation (normal compared to the Hadi putting Haya to sleep nonsense that happened last week...)? What? Why?
And am I the only one who thinks Haya's room looks like a psych room? Kounsay cheap hospital mein laya hei Rameez bechari ko?
wait...did she just faint to force Hadi to go back to treating pregnant ladies???

One second they're having breakfast...the next she's packing a bag...? I feel so confused.
Oh. Acha. I see. So apparently we were denied a whole scene of Taya and Tayi who came to take Haya home...

Hadi's pal is over joyed Hadi is taking cases again. Cos patients ki line lag jaayegi. Sign me up too...I want to see Dr. Hadi...

Seriously, worse parent EVER.

Fareesa will get to get away with her 'affair' with Saim? That seems unfair.

The scene where Haya cuts the sandwiches into a hundred peices...
Rameez trying to look sexy/mysterious while licking his fingers
why did Hadi see Haya's face in a post it?
Hahaha - why does Haya look constipated here? Classic passport photo picture.

Oh-kay. So let's talk about this scene. I'm not sure how I felt about it. Ever since Haya came back, and regardless of HIS marriage to Fareesa, Hadi continued to blow hot and cold and if I was Haya, I'd be confused too. On the other hand, Haya IS married now, and it seems Hadi has made a good choice in laying down the law and putting up some boundaries.

Mera Naam Yousuf Hai - Episode 13: A Review and Update

To say I like this drama, is a serious understatement. I watch it two or three episodes at a time because if I watch just ONE episode, it leaves me wanting more, and patience was never my strong suit. If you haven't seen my introductory review of the drama (please do, don't want you to be lost), the OST for it played in my car on repeat. For like three weeks. At the top most volume. Yep, played like a tacky Bollywood song in a car of raging hormones and knock-off brand wearing boys cruising down Tariq Road.

The other things I love about this drama are the colors - the visuals are...well for lack of a good word...just so pretty. I find myself wanting to wear a lot of outfits (and you KNOW what a big fashion police I can be). I love the women in this drama. Their smart mouths, intellect and strength. And lastly, I love the humor. It's there, it's smart, and it will make you laugh. No bathroom jokes, gay jokes, or filthy language (I'm looking at you Bollywood).

So - without further ado, let me walk you through the latest episode...

You already know our hero, Yousuf. He is in jail again. This time he kidnapped Imran Mugheez (Zuleikha's cousin and the guy her dad wants her to marry) on the day of the nikah, which provides some great laughs, cos he and his best bud did it with a fake gun and had no clue what to do with the guy once they trapped him. The only issue I have with Yousuf, is for some reason (I think to imply youth though the guy doesn't look a day over 25) he wears shirts that are a size too small. Maybe it's cos he's so - you know - BUFF. The shirt is wanting to rip right off. Salman Khan style...ohhhh yeahhhh...

Errrrr...MOVING ON....

Zulekha wasn't in love with Yousuf until she really saw his devotion to her. I enjoyed seeing how she went from "I don't love you back. I don't even know you" to "This guy would do anything for me and meray dil mein bhi kuch kuch ho ra hei." Seeing her fathers brutality, she has agreed to marry Imran Mugheez IF her father drops all charges he made against Yousuf (more on that later).

Yousuf's not-evil stepmom. #TwoThumbsUp

Here's an important twist: Aparently Yousuf's dad and Zulekha's mom are also star-crossed lovers. We don't get details of how what happened, but it's made obvious that Zulekha's dad somehow weaseled her away from Yousuf's dad and married her himself.

Let's get to the crux of this drama: Zulekha's dad. He wants to marry his sister's nand (pictured above) and they have apparently had the hots for each other forever. So dad makes a deal with his sister: his daughter marries her son and dad marries her nand. When Dad finds out Yousuf kidnapped Imran Mugheez, he files a fake FIR stating his nephew was beaten within his life and Yousuf and his friend extorted one crore for Imran to be returned. Hence the police have a field day beating him up.
Now with Zulekha and Imran's nikah all done, dad looks like he is ready to bring home his bride...but our heroine doesn't look like she's gonna let that happen so easily...

Just in case you wanted to know if Imran Mugheez is a thug or wimp: the answer is wimp. Him pretending to have amnesia after he returns home from his 'kidnapping' is a laugh a second. #GoodActing

Zulekha demands her father be sent home within an hour or she won't let the rukhsati take place. As luck would have it, Molvi Sahab is supposed to marry the nand in an hour....yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen now lol.

This awesome scene where Zulekha lets her phuppo know who is wearing the pants in her relationship - like a boss.

Zulekha's gamble has paid off: she threatens to file for divorce if her dad marries Bushra (the nand) and Phuppo declares dad can't have Bushra until Zulekha is wedded and bedded.

On this note the episode ends, with a promo for this week promising more fireworks. I know some people are double thinking watching this drama after the two gems Pyaray Afzal and Sadqay Tumharay produced by the writer, but I think what makes a difference between this and those works is the director, who has done a phenomenal job of painting these vibrant characters. Also, this drama has a lighter tone which is undeniable and obvious from the first episode, which also gives me hope that Yousuf isn't planning to die. #Win

I hope I've made believers out of you and I'm hoping you will tune in to watch this fun but thoughtful drama! Happy watching!

Zid - Final Episode

Honestly, I only decided to waste 40 minutes of my life watching this episode so I could provide all of us (who God knows why watched this drama) with closure.

The episode starts with - ONCE AGAIN - Omar telling Saman that Zee has to go. Now. What a pansy. If Saman hasn't kicked Zee out in all this time, what makes him think she'll do it now?

Zee emotionally blackmails Saman. For reals. Saman says Zee doesn't have to go anywhere because this is Zee's house too.

Next thing you know, Zee is giving herself a makeover and me (the viewer) is still trying to figure out WHY Saman has declared this is Zee's house too and WHY isn't she kicking Zee out of the house when it's obvious she is making moves on Omar?

Omar comes home to find Zee is STILL in his house #SurpriseSurprise.

Zee in one scene and then the next. I think all that drug abuse has killed off any brain cells she might've had.

Zee continues to blabber on about having no place to go and some bakwas about having no shanakth. Hello - you left him. You divorced him. You made a choice. Maybe this is supposed to be a great insight-into-Zee scene, but all her yelling and screeching made me like her even less. Where the heck is Saman?

And Omar, as usual, has nothing wise to contribute to the argument. He's still crying like a little girl. #CryMeARiver

Really? Really? NOW you beleive??

Me: Will this torture ever end?

More unbeatable logic from Zee.

I must've missed something - cos next thing you know Saman, who has practically done everything she probably shouldn't have so far in this drama, all of a sudden has an epiphany and FINALLY kicks Zee out! Unfortunately, I'm still confused: is Saman offended that Zee made moves on Omar because she cares about him OR because Saman is having a if-I-can't-have-him-no-one-can moment?

Wait. Wait. This scene should've been a declaration that Saman finally found warm-fuzzy feelings for Omar and she kicked Zee out to save her marriage. Instead, Zee tu chali gaee, laykin these two fools are still fighting.

Zee sends Saman a final love letter and Saman has a flashback about Zee telling her she wants Omar back. And Saman STILL didn't beleive Omar?

And then this - did Saman ever develop feelings for Omar? Who knows. Before she could complete a sentence, Omar was handing her divorce papers. What a waste.

And in the end, Saman walks around in the rain and takes Rukhi's name a few times. Just to remind us ke is dramay mein koi Rukhi bhi thi.

The only positive thing about this drama, was it manages to end within 20 episodes. Nothing else made sense. Saman faces situation after situation which kept teaching her to accept her situation and try to adjust with Omar and she got evidence after evidence that Omar was such a great guy BUT she just continued to walk down the path of self-destruction. Hence, making all the extra characters and sideline stories unnecessary and unimportant.

I thought this drama had great potential - two people with 'pasts,' Saman starting out with her defiance...but that defiance just turned into ass-ism and the drama went down hill and never recovered. Of all the things you could do with your precious time, watching this drama should not be one of them.

Until next time...

Zid - Episode 18

Right now, I am hating my own zid to continue to watch this drama.

The episode opens up with Zee giving Ms. Whiney-Pants counselling. It's like a catch-22 with Zee: She is actually hitting the nail on the head by telling Saman to just leave if she's so god dang unhappy BUT Zee is only telling her that so that she can get a second chance with Omar. So, whereas I'm like, "Yay! Talk some sense into her Zee!" I am also, "Zee, you are such a scheming piece of work."

Omar goes to this long lost friend for a heart-to-heart. As usual this ass (sorry, no mood to mince words here...) is like the worse advice giver in the whole world. Literally, these two are crying like a bunch of teenage girls..."What about MY needs," "I want someone to appreciate me," "I do everything in this relationship!" "I feel so pressured by my family! Dunya wale kia kaheinge!"
I bet Mark Sloan would give great advise in this scenario to these two half-wits. I bet it would go along the lines of, "Grow a pair." Just sayin'.

Zee has become Ms. Sughar in her quest to oust Saman. Saman doesn't "care" about Omar, but she is always quick to be resentful when Zee takes care of the poor guy.

Aakhir yeh kia job karta hei??

Saman's saas thinks she may be pregnant...

I just want to know how lucky you are that Omar cleared up that misconception for the viewers immediately. It saved us all the whole discussion of how Omar and Saman's supposedly Hamza-Iqra marriage resulted in Hamza-Maya relation results...

Zee and Saman have the most in-depth conversation over Omar in the middle of a grocery store while Saman buys juice with the same focus and attention someone would buy a million dollar house. Sheesh. It's just juice. Are you really going to scrutinize every flavor on the shelf?

Wait - what? Zee goes missing and Saman wants Omar to help find her?! *Sigh*

Wow. I CAN NOT believe that this aired on prime time. Family drama? Me thinks not...

Saman, do you have rocks for brains? Why why WHY would you let a woman, who is openly declaring she wants your husband, stay in your house? What is wrong with you? Why would someone make a drama that makes no sense? Why am I still watching this? ARRRGHHHH!!
Check it out: Zee turns up intoxicated and in the middle of the night (*cough* clock on the wall says 9:45 *cough*) and in Omar's room.

At this point, I'm really wondering what was the point of the Rukhi and Uncle Qasim storyline? It contributed absolutely nothing to the growth of Saman's character, no change, no newly-found-awareness or appreciation. So, why did they have to introduce those characters and why did they have to die?

Hum TV, really, you need to up your game. I, for one, am tired of these junk dramas that have no message and make no sense.
