Alvida - Episode 16

This episode opened up with this scene: Haya, rejected by Hadi, asking Rameez to take her home. (Correction... The episode opened with ramwez staring at Haya crying, complete with horror movie background music and psycho killer smile in place)

As I watched this 5-second scene, I came to the conclusion that Rameez might turn out to be crazy but it's Haya that is definitely in the wrong. First, she tried to make Hadi jealous by hooking up with Rameez, then she goes running back home and now that Hadi draws a line, she again turns to Rameez to escape Hadi. It's pretty cruel the way she's treated/treating Rameez. Sorry...from last episode's photography session it is quite clear that Rameez has always knows about Haya's obsession with Hadi and he still pursued her relentlessly. So no sympathy from me for psycho Rameez.

And then we have these two...I don't think I have the 'will power' to watch them be a couple. What are the chances Saim is going to convince Fareesa to run away to the U.S. with him? #Please #WishfulThinking
 We know what that means

yes but i don't think the viewers have the will power to see all that Ha-Reesa romance. Fareesa's response and excuse is totally lame
Although i dont blame the gal...if doctor Hadi was looking at me with those come hither eyes and suggested we use will power to take our marriage to the next level...i would totally throw past misdemeanors in his face too...pfft.

meanwhile Rameez is at home unleashing all the crazy that's been making us uncomfortable about him.
How does he manage to make this sound so sinister and creepy??

Pfffft. Whatever. You know we were all thinking it...

Yeh? Yeh hei tohfa? Lagta hei Fareesa ke saath ja kay leea tha.
i dont know...i kinda liked it.
Multiple feelings about this:
1 - Glad Haya is as creeped out by Rameez's picture taking as we are.
2 - Even though Rameez is saying the exact same thing I said at the beginning of the review, his vocalizing the same sentiment is hair-raising.
3 - Haya's devotion to Hadi was no secret. Rameez even walked around HS Bhai-ing our ears out. But is he now implying that he didn't have a clue, until Haya made Hadi sandwiches, that Haya is devoted to Hadi?
4 - Maybe Rameez will turn out to be not psycho but just abusive? Maybe Hum TV can turn this drama around and make it about domestic violence? Umeed pe dunya qaim hei after all.

here's what i want to know...how did Rameez manage to get those pictures of Haya and Hadi's??? Ye khidki se li tasveer, yeh darwaze se aur ye pics k liye i turned invisible and stood right next you guys...

Fareesa sneaks out of bed to chit chat with her boyfriend and gets caught. The conversation that follows - ie her excuse - is just too stupid to repeat. Hadi is as dumb as a door knob. That's all I know.

Umm....that looks kind of dangerous...

"Tumhara cousin shadian karta Ja ra hei, karta ja ra hei..." Hahaha.
This must've been the FIRST conversation (or monologue by Rameez really) that actually made sense, and actually sounded rational.
and all i kept thinking was why they're having dinner in the bedroom when they have such a huge flat???

Oh. Wait. Hadi wasn't fooled by the "I'm talking to my mom" excuse. Phew. There's hope after all.
Aur yeh kon sa time hei raath ka that these two are sleeping and those two are having dinner?

Playing Haya must've turned Sanam Jung off of marriage for life. This scene crushes any hope of Rameez just being abusive. He's definitely a little cuckoo. a little???
yeah...sure...a little psycho
Yeh hein Tayi - fasaad ki jardh. Pehlay Hadi ki shadi Fareesa se ki Aur ab Haya ki Rameez se. Someone really needs to tell her that her match making skills suck. She should stick to going to the family clinic and doing whatever it is that she does there.

who else got the heebie jeebies from the lunch box scene??

Finally for me Zahid Ahmed has broken the Mehram chains and come into his own in Alvida. He makes a great psycho. While he was being creepy stalker boyfriend i couldn't stand him. Now that he's the psycho husband his dialogues have gotten better, and his acting skills are on glorious display. Thumbs up psycho Rameez.
No internet. No phone. And he will probably lock the apartment door from the outside. This guy is like a shoo-in for most thorough villain at the next Hum TV awards.

Check it out. Sadi is still like 6 months old. And no one is concerned he will roll off the bed. Yeh doctors ki family hei?
Also, I'm happy to announce that after like 10 (?) episodes I finally know Sadi is a boy. Someone needs to give Taya a head CT. Koi apne wali-ahed ko itni la parwaee se treat karta hei?

Guess who turned into father of the year overnight?

Meanwhile, poor Haya has to resort to sending out SOS notes from her window...smart move haya...i dont see this going wrong in way or form...taaliyaan apki aqalmandi pe.

And so another episode of Alvida comes to a close. It's like the writer couldn't manage to work in parallel stories moving together - so this episode the writer was so focused on the Haya-Rameez story developing we don't see developments in anyone else's stories. And I'm still really curious to know if Saim's return will contribute anything to the story, or if he was just a time pass for Fareesa for the past few episodes.

I guess we will wait and see...

p.s: sorry about the massive delay with alvida for last two weeks. I've been really sick. once again props to shamsi who was extremely busy but still managed tro churn out 4 reviews, Muahs. I love this girl :-D

Mehram - Last Episode

As usual, I live under my own personal rock, and I had no clue this was supposed to be the last episode of this drama. But, last episode it was and end it did, so let's celebrate the final minutes of this saga until Hum TV figures out what to air that could possibly be even worse...

As we all remember, Molvi Sahab finally Allah ko pyaray ho gaaye. Iqra Ji is all alone in the world now, except for her namehram-but-mehram husband Hamza and the ever-imposing khala ji. Coming back from the funeral with Rashid, Hamza has the following deep and eye-openning *cough cough* conversations with his bestie...

Seriously - Rashid must be paid peanuts. This car is from the 1980s or somethings. Wheel caps tak nahi lagay huay...
I'm glad we got to see Rashid one last time. He's been the only who stuck with Humza through thick and Thin. Best bro-mance ever in pakistani drama history.

Maya is waiting for Hamza...nonchalantly fondling her passport...And we totally didn't see the camera focus on her passport when she got up from the table...

Maya calls Hamza a jerk for leaving his tragedy-ridden wife (Iqra) all alone and how he needs to go get her. Maya nei unka kamra bhi ready kar deea...

Oh - but it comes with a caveat: Iqra comes, Maya leaves.
Humza's character was the most frustrating in this episode. For a guy who was suicidal when his two wives left him...who was seething with anger when he found out their plan to stick around until he got better then make him choose...is suddenly okay with one wife leaving him. Phir why was he being such a sourpuss when Iqra left? Ugh.

So Hamza calls Iqra to tell her he's on his way to pick her up.

Maya "prepares" Iqra's room for her entry into the house as Humza's non-platonic wife. Basically she walks around the room and leaves things untouched. What happened to all the talk of "Mai khud apki saij sajaoongi"???
There were hardly any dialogues in this episode...lot's of standing around...looking into space for Humza
Lot's of packing for Maya and Iqra...
Humza's reaction to Maya's exit is just...i don't think i have the words to explain this...for a guy who is about to lose the wife who is supposedly his one true love the benign smile on his face makes no sense. Ofcourse we don't get any dialogues just musical silences so we have to assume what he must be thinking.
and then when he does speak...
yeah. Just keep quiet Humza.

Maya seems so confused that Iqra lives in this dump...
Maya beta...just because maulvi daddy is dead doesn't mean you should enter his house dupatta-less. If he wasn't dead already he'd have died now.

Bus - Farhat Aunty aa gaeen tu samjho kuch burra he honay wala hei.
Yup, Iqra has left and she's left a final letter to Hamza.

...now Maya wants to cuddle...

No joke. These two came home and next thing you know Maya is knocked up.
After ALL that...episode after episode of back and forth and back forth and back forth - and she just leaves and Hamza doesn't even bother to LOOK for her??

Hamza and Maya have a little girl jo bilkul ma pe gaee hei.
Seems to me... She's more like her dad.
Wohi suicidal tendencies.

Also, someone needs to fire the stylist for this drama. Everyone's wardrobe sucked. Big time.

Oh look Hamza! Your wife-but-not-wife has become a famous poetess!

We must have missed our calling because Hum TV would have us believe that writers are raking in the big bucks - pehle Fareeda from Digest Writer and now Iqra.

In the time it took for Hamza and Maya to have a baby and Iqra to amass a fortune and get a decent blow-dry, Farhat Aunty has become old and (apparently) Iqra's nanny

Maulvi daddy ki death did wonders for iqra... She got a nice haircut, bought better clothes,  wrote and published x-rated poetry with not a care in the world. The first book, titled quite unimaginatively as "mehram" did well. But then Iqra got lazy and now the publisher is hounding her for a new anthology of poems.
All we have so far is a name...
I have no idea why the publisher has such an OTT reaction to the name of the book. Its called "Terey Baad" not "I want to be a publisher's non-platonic wife"

And on that unsatisfying note this drama comes to an end...
with Iqra staring at the sunset...
and a dozen questions swirling in our head...

Did Areeb have a successful music career in London? Does Rashid get his own non-platonic wife? Where is Farhat khala's husband? Did she even have one? Will Maya ever discover the miracles of anti-frizz serums and a good blow-dry at the salon?
 and finally
Did Humza buy the book of poems?
Someone suggested on another review page that there should be a sequel called "tere baad" where Iqra and Humza finally get together. To that person all I have to say is
Bye bye mehram, thanks for the laughs.
